Free Art Friday: Screaming Face

In Free Art Friday on February 17, 2012 at 4:40 pm

I, Jafabrit,  left a couple of Free Art Friday pieces in town (Yellow Springs, Ohio)  this bright and cheery morning.

For those of you who don’t know about Free Art Fridays, it’s a movement around the country and in the UK where artists leave work out for free Art (labeled free art to take home and enjoy). More info is on my Free Art Friday Blog with examples from various artists.

Jafagirls in the News

Well sort of, Nancy is now the Gallery Coordinator for the Yellow Springs Arts Council, and I am her elf helper. I am at the far left and Nancy is at the far right :)  The article is about the  new location and mission of the arts council.

ps. If you are in town and want to see the Arts Council Permanent Collection and have a few nibbles at the reception Nancy is hosting, pop by the John Bryan Community Gallery tonight between 5pm-8pm.  Click on link here for more info.

Flower Power Continues ♥

Johanna donated some spare bits of crochet and Nancy and I decided to incorporate these beautiful crochet medallions into a craft/yarnboming piece on the corner of Datyon and Walnut in Yellow Springs, Ohio.  The top portion has the crochet and the black band has flowers by the flower power gang.

Nancy and I are working on a new textile/knit graffiti totem pole for Corry Street in Yellow Springs and this little beauty Nancy designed and made will go at the top.

Meanwhile

Flower Power Sew In’s continue at Brother Bear’s Cafe  on Friday mornings and slowly the flowers continue to bloom on Dayton and Corry Street.

Much thanks goes to Brother Bears Cafe, and of course everyone who is coming along and donating supplies and making such BEAUTIFUL flowers, leaves and vines.

THANK YOU

Moira Laughlin’s chameleon and Maya Dora-Laskey’s flowers added just the right touch to the flower power pole on the corner of Corry Street and Xenia Avenue.

The Fate of Yarnbombed Dolls in Graffiti Alley Ann Arbor

In craftbombing, knit graffiti, yarnbombing on April 14, 2010 at 12:49 pm

My camo dolls seem very popular and don’t last too long before someone nabs them leaving the knit behind. This one was placed march 17, 2010 and even though the doll was taken the knit still looks kind of cool, check out zakzorah’s photograph of the guerilla knitting.

This one from  March 17th, 2009 was decorated with markers for a while before being taken, but the knit was still there. Several flickr members took some super photos and comments are fun to read. Piathia commentator asks “signs of mental illness”?. TracieW called it “sacrifice”. Mfophotos called it “weavers effigy”. Ho Ho Ho Green Barbie by Zakzorah, although some think she looks like Captain Kirk’s green lady.

Alley Cat March 17th, 2008

She stayed up the longest although someone did carve a cross into her head. Somehow she ended up at the bottom of the pole. And she got a moustache LOL!  I think people had fun with this doll for sure.

Yarn Bombing Book

In Fabric Arts, In the News, knit graffiti, Street Art, Yellow Springs on September 2, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Nancy and Corrine are proud to be included in the new yarn bombing book and amongst so many experienced knitters/crocheters. If you get a chance to check the book out you will find it visually beautiful with great ideas, patterns, interviews,  and some amazing work.
