  1. Hello,

I was wondering if you girls give lessons?

  2. Hiay lauren, what sort of lessons were you looking for? Jen gives painting lessons now and again (one coming up soon), and Nancy is part of the team at the village artisans doing a couple of workshops for ATC trading cards. Talitha does the occasional workshops on jewelry making (at rita caz in yellow springs). Rita caz is in the process of moving and once settled she will be starting classes. Just let me know what it is you are looking for or are interested in.
    regards jafabrit aka corrine

  3. thank you for your lovely comment.
    I feel really flattered.

    Tilleke

  4. OH my, I just read your Faq page Tilleke , you LIKE graffiti :) I guess mentioning my FAVE artist Basquiat was spot on lol!

If you EVER do a workshop near Dayton Ohio sign ME up, woo hoo!
    regards Corrine aka Jafabrit

  5. are you open on mondays/

    • The jafagirls don’t have a shop or business, but nancy is a member of Village Artisans which is open Mondays, Talitha is a jewelry artist at Rita Caz (closed Mondays) and Jafabrit has work at the In A Frame gallery (also closed Mondays). Is that what you meant?

  6. Hello,

I just moved to Yellow Springs a month ago and have been admiring your work when I’m out and about! Recently I’ve been wondering about whether you would be interested in a particular project.

It has to do with climate change and a group called 350.org — maybe you’ve heard of it? Scientists say that 350 parts per million is the safe limit of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere if humans want to live on a planet with conditions “similar to those in which civilization developed.” Right now the atmospheric level of carbon dioxide is more like 380 ppm, so the clock is ticking (fast!) to get the level back down to something reasonable, and to try to stop catastrophic climate change. The next big international summit on climate change is in December. Therefore, on October 24th people from all over the world, in communities big and small will get together and do something creative involving the number 350, take a picture and send it in — the idea is to create a dazzling visual demonstration of a worldwide grassroots push to try to lower carbon dioxide levels before it is too late.

Certainly it seems like it should be possible to get some folks together in Yellow Springs for a little rally and a picture — maybe in the Glen or one of the other beautiful, natural areas around here? And what would be cooler than a handmade, knitted banner? It could even be on display after October 24th has passed. Anyway, I don’t have a great idea of whether this would fit in your time frame or be something you could take on, but I wanted to ask. I’m very reachable by email and would be happy to come and meet with anyone who was interested.

    Thanks much,

    Sehvilla

    • Hia Sehvilla, I printed out your comment and will be talking to the jafagirls today, so I will get back to you. I like the idea of the glen, well it is GORGEOUS. Maybe even use rocks, feathers or leaves found in the glen to create a sign ( al la andrew goldsworthy style) .

  7. I like the idea of making a sign with natural materials…

    • We seem to be tied up and unable to participate, but I don’t think you would not need our help if you go with the natural materials route.

All the best with it, and if need to promote it just drop me a line, I am more than happy to put the info on the Yellow springs arts blog I run.

  8. Maybe I’ll put up some signs around town to call a meeting. Thanks for considering the idea, and I’m sure (when I have some details figured out) I could use help spreading the word!

    • I did forward your info to a couple of people and hopefully they will get in touch :) Maybe put something in the ys news.

  9. I’ll put something in the YS News for next week — the meeting is set for Saturday the 15th at 4pm at the Yellow Springs Community Library. Here’s the text of a flyer I’m going to post around town:

Want to do something about climate change?

On October 24th, villagers have a chance to participate in an awesome global movement to push for real action on global warming now, before irreversible damage is done to the environment.

It all has to do with the number 350. Scientists now believe that to have a planet with environmental conditions “similar to the ones under which civilization developed,” the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere must be no higher than 350 parts per million (ppm). Currently there are almost 390 ppm carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and the effects of potentially devastating warming are already appearing, even faster than previously predicted. If the world does not act rapidly to dramatically shift energy policy and start reversing this number, within a few years it could be too late to even try to stop catastrophic effects from climate change.

There’s a chance for that policy shift to happen this December, when world leaders meet in Copenhagen for the next international climate summit. Unfortunately, it is far from guaranteed that participants will make the necessary, dramatic changes to set us on track for 350 ppm; yet this is key to meaningfully combating climate change. But on Saturday October 24th, six weeks before the climate summit, people in communities all over the world are going to take action to show world leaders how important the number 350 is to them. On six continents, in many different settings, people will gather and do something imaginative to draw attention to this number 350: some will spell the number out with their bodies; others will create installation art; there will be rallies and marches, but what all the actions have in common is that they will take a picture with participants somehow featuring the number 350, and this and all the other pictures from all the other actions will be sent to world leaders at the climate change summit in Copenhagen. There are lots of cool ideas and more information about the movement at http://www.350.org .

Environmentally concerned and creative? Sounds like something we could do in Yellow Springs! If you’re interested in helping to plan a 350 event for October 24th, come to a brainstorming Meeting at the Yellow Springs Community Library, Saturday, August 15th at 4pm.
For more information (or if you’re interested but can’t attend the meeting), please contact sehvilla@gmail.com.

  10. Thanks for the clarifying comment to my blog post. I am glad to see the knitting arts being used for public art. They have been confined to afghans and scarves for far too long!

  11. Hey! Found you all just looking through yarn bombing pics. Pretty awesome stuff! Does Mr. Plato ever take trips? I’d love to Flat Stanley him out to NM where I live!

    • Thanks for droppy by Ken. I love the idea of mr.plato traveling, and we are trying to figure out the logistics and how to’s. will certainly keep you in mind in the future.

  12. Help…Do u no any 1 in San Diego that could use yarn??I just moved and i have about 9-10 boxes of yarn…In a rainbow of colors…Pls…I do not want to throw it away..Thanks Sharon…

  13. Hello, I was just wondering if you had anything going on in March… specifically the 19th? I was going to be in Yellow Springs and I really like your artwork!!

    • I don’t think so in terms of us being out and doing anything but Nancy has her work in Village Artisans on corry street, and I have work in the gallery across the street called “would you could you, IN A FRAME” (just tell the owner you l sent you in :) plus we still have a few yarnbombing pieces up. THe snowflake tree is outside the Village Artisans in the front, and don’t forget to peek at the Art Box next to In a Frame.

Hope you have a FUN visit and do check with the chamber of commerce website for any info about events that weekend. It is wellness weekend with the Yellow Springs Experience and so lots of workshops etc.

    • oh and thank you, so glad you like our work :)
