How the Jafagirls Got Started
It all started in 2005 when Jan and I (Corrine aka Jafabrit) had our art reception. We were pouting because hardly anyone showed up despite all the usual methods of advertizing and a nice review by Jud Yalkut in the Dayton City Paper. My husband remarked, “Well they probably think your just another bunch of Jafa’s, why would anyone come out of their way on a Saturday Night to a gallery in the middle of nowhere”. He was right! We burst out laughing and decided we were going to do things a little differently from now on.
No more catering to convention and to heck with elitism.
Corrine aka Jafabrit is a full time artist, community art activist/volunteer, and website/blog administrator for the Yellow Springs Art Council. Corrine also runs the Yellow Springs Arts Blog that features arts around the Yellow Springs community, as well as Free Art Friday Blog that showcases artists from around the world that leave art out for free any given Friday.
Nancy Mellon is also a full time artist, member of the Village Artisans gallery, community arts activist/volunteer and YS Experience Co-ordinator 2011 for the Yellow Springs Arts Council, as well a curator of the YS Arts Council Permanent Collection and Gallery Co-ordinator for the YS Arts Council Gallery.

Oh, I get it. I’d always heard JAFA as an Youth Hostel acronym for “just another f**king Australian.” Now I know its other meaning, though.
I love the story about the cop helping you. I looked your town up on google earth and it’s tiny, you should be proud to achieve so much in a small town , I thinks it’s smaller than my small town (Nowra NSWAustralia)
Life would be dull here in YS without you two, you know…
aaaaaaaaah, thank you Yvonne
