Knit Knot Box Returneth

In Uncategorized on February 28, 2011 at 3:13 pm

Remember how we recycled some of the knit graffiti from the knit knot tree to make a box for the International StoryBox Project. It was supposed to only travel 1 year but was so popular it took 2 years to make it back home. It returneth and an event by the Storytellers group is scheduled in march, more info here.

First Radio show about yarnbombing

In Radio show, yarnbombing on February 23, 2011 at 8:29 pm

Nancy and I (she made me wear those glasses, honest) started doing a radio show with Blog Talk Radio called Bit’s & Bobs with the Jafagirls . I’m the bit and she’s the bob and our first show is scheduled for March 1st at 2pm and  is  focused on yarnbombing and the last 10 mins the Bit’s and Bobs :) A joke, what’s on my blog, what’s going on around town, and the secret word/s, etc. Sort of flubbed my words a bit and getting a brain freeze is very easy when one is on the spot, yikes.  Can’t share what the secret word is here, if you tell me what it is I’ll know you listened to the show (hee!hee!)

Show links: about Yinka Shonabare on jafabrit’s art, yarnbombing wesbite, the book yarnbombing :the art of knit and crochet graffiti,  Yellow Springs arts councilyellow springs arts blog,  Yellow Springs experience wellness weekend……… Knit the City

English Cuisine , “In 2005, 600 food critics writing for (British) Restaurant magazine named 14 British restaurants among the 50 best restaurants in the world” ………….and what are crumpets and tar- in- a- jar (marmite) as Maggie Hall calls it in her Mish Mash Dictionary of Marmite

We got a wee mention in the Boston Globe Watch the Streets-knitters are on the loose and I’m liking what they’re doing in Boston, the wild woolly makeover is FUN, bet the kids love it. As usual someone HAD to comment about the homeless, groan, if they care about the homeless read this, or the presumed smell, reaaaaaaaaaaally!

A reporter asked me

In Street Art, textile graffiti, yarnbombing, Yellow Springs on February 16, 2011 at 10:12 pm

If we are stealth yarnbombers. No! It’s impossible in a small village like ours to stick knitting on a whole street or anywhere in secret. Last time I tried to be stealthy with a spray can and stencil in the local alley I  got caught and recognized  straight away despite wearing a hoodie.

We are blessed to live in a village where seeing people do interesting, strange, wonderful things isn’t unusual, so us sticking knitting on a tree is almost blase, even the cops help out :)

Kind of fun to see a pic of our local cop showing up on the international blogosphere :)  Anyway since 2007 I would say we have done almost 55 to 60 yarn/craft bombs, mostly in Yellow Springs, some in Graffiti Alley in  Ann Arbor Michigan,  and some in Taiwan

Some Jafagirl Camo Knit Graff Dolls/stickers included in Graffiti Alley Ann Arbor Michigan

Recently both images of the knit knot tree were included in a really cool  children’s book in the Netherlands called How Do I Survive (Wild Knitting)

Mr.Plato visits Ohio Craft Museum

In Uncategorized on February 10, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Mother Nature’s Chair by Chris Lang

Yesterday the Jafa girls and a  Nancy’s Jafa Hubby-Steven, descended on the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus to see their Chair Show.  The postcard they had sent out showed some very intriguing/fun art in the form of chairs.  So I (Nancy) asked the crew if they were interested, got resounding “yeses!” and we were off on a bitterly cold day to bum around Columbus.

Mr. Plato sat in the back with Jafabrit Corrine. (He seemed a bit quiet but happy to be out and about.  Corrine did most of the talking!)

The Ohio Craft museum was easy to find and had there own parking lot.  We scuttled in and were immediately blown away with the joyful collection of eccentric Chairs.  Big chairs, little chairs, chairs made of sawdust, a blown up chair of plastic bags.  OOOoooo there were chairs to delight all your senses.  I had to keep grabbing my hands to keep from touching them.  We dashed from chair to chair and pulled each other over to check out our finds.  The presentation was warm and inviting.  We were allowed to take pictures and given gloves so that we could turn the pages in an artist’s book about chairs. We were greeted and shown around.  And when we brought up Mr. Plato and our wish to bring him in and photograph him there we were smiled at and given the go a head.   This is my kind of Museum!

As you can see Mr. Plato was wowed by the show too!

The Chair show will continue until March 27th.  The Ohio Craft Museum is at 1665 W. Fifth Ave. in Columbus.  www.ohiocraft.org  Treat yourself to a wonderful time, go visit!
